The best value for a home improvement would be renovating the kitchen and/ or bathroom(s).


The kitchen is one of the most important rooms in a house, which is why putting money into it can easily add value to your home. Make sure that the kitchen is well organized, has ample storage and counter space, and features newer appliances; if you are considering selling.


The bathroom naturally has a very important function in the home. It's functional and gets used several times a day, but it can also be a space for relaxation and quiet time. This is why it's the most important room after the kitchen in terms of where you should invest your renovation dollars.


An easy renovation that can be done throughout a home and most cost effective and time conscious is PAINTING. Paint is the largest impact/ change in a space and most rewarding. Quite simply, paint is the homeowner’s ultimate decorating tool, altering the appearance, the impression of size of temperature within the space. Neutral colours may seem a bit boring to you, but they will appeal to buyers if you are selling; brightens up the rooms. Painted walls can make an entire room feel new, even if the furniture or window treatments are a bit older. New paint also makes an area feel clean and spacious, so it should definitely be in your renovation.

Revive- Deep purples and bright greens bring a new and re-energized life back to home décor schemes. 2011 is showing a new-again 70’s vibe, punctuating luxurious greys like “Guys Night Out” (P5248-73), with pops of colour on accent walls, like “Candied Apple Green” (P5042-83D).

 
 
 
Refresh- 2011 is bursting with a fresh new spirit and flare that embraces both the past and present. “Loft Space” (P5248-44D), the smooth urban grey, is today’s neutral. Vibrant blues like “Mountain of Toys” (P5161-41) and must have violets such as “Fashion Girl” (P5194-63), are freshening for backdrop walls. 

 
 
 
Renew- The Canadian design direction is celebrating the art of modern roots and the Canadian landscape. Nothing transforms a room like a fresh coat of paint. It’s the single most impactful change you can make in your home, and it has the ability to breathe new life into an old space.


From my first apartment to my first house, to rooms I’ve decorated for TV projects, I have spent plenty of time with a paint brush in hand. I always marvel at the end of the result and am awed by how a new colour on the walls can completely change a space.

High Quality Paint Has Its Advantages

During the warmer seasons, homeowners routinely take the opportunity to give their home a “fresh” new look simply by using a few coats of paint. Yes, the painting season is still in full swing.



With so many new paint products on the market, choosing the right type of paint can be as stressful as selecting the right color. Paint manufactures are new innovative technology in their top quality products, making the selection process even harder when it comes to determining the right paint for the job.


One of the most frequently asked questions in the decorating business is “Why is paint quality really so important?” There are actually several reasons why paint quality is an important issue to consider when making your purchase.


Top quality paint offers advantages such as:


Better coverage- high quality paint is creamier and thicker and provides better coverage (less coats) than a cheaper paint, especially when it comes to dark colors. Cheaper paint tends to be thinner (more water has been added to the product thus requiring more coats to cover an area).


Easier application- because of the thicker consistency of quality paint, less splattering and drips will occur during application. Thicker paint flows more easily and you’re less likely to end up with visible brush strokes. The end result is sleeker, smoother walls.


More durability- high quality paints look great for a longer period of time. There is generally less cracking, chipping or flaking. Surface adhesion is simply that much better.


Improved stain resistance- top quality paints provide better grease, stain and dirt resistance.


Color will last longer- high quality paint made with new technology will allow color to maintain its original tone and sheen for a very long time. This is an important factor to consider, especially if your room is exposed to a large amount of sunlight. UV rays can easily damage paint, resulting in faded and lifeless color.


Paint color is one of the most powerful and effective ways to change our home environment. You will definitely pay a higher price for high quality paint, but it’s important to consider the longevity of the paint finish. The longer your paint will last, the fewer times you have to get back on that ladder to re-paint. Choosing a lower grade paint can easily lead to disappointment down the line. So before tackling your next big project, take the time to do some research of the new paint technologies available. It will definitely be worth your time and effort.
